Unlike the motorcycle, motor scooters are significantly easier to use. Scooters operation with just a throttle with no need to learn how to shift gears, so even kids can easily operate. In comparison to motorcycles, moped scooters are much lighter, engine is located above the rear axle below the seat, and riders rest feet on a platform instead of pedals.

Another benefit of moped scooters is the cost. You can find a quality gas scooter for under $1000. Annual car maintenance is well over that price and you will also spend much more money on fuel. You can see why scooters are so popular around the world and becoming desirable here in America.

Common Sense Motor Scooters Safety Tips

Published by Steven M. Mihajlov under Motorcycles

by Steven M. Mihajlov

Motor scooters are becoming very popular especially among the youth market looking for a quick, cheap form of transportation. They are often used for traveling short distances around the neighborhood to perform errands. Due to their size, fuel-efficiency, weight, and typically larger storage room than a motorcycle, they are ideal in this situation.

50cc scooters have become popular among teenagers because in some states require no drivers license to operate. But any scooter in the hands of the youth, without any previous driving experience, they can be deadly if they fail to follow the following safety tips.

Here Are Some Safety Tips For Motor Scooters Operators

1) Wear Safety Gear

The helmet is the most important piece of safety gear. The rider should always wear a helmet, even if it is not required by law. A person is 40% more likely to suffer a fatal head injury if they are not wearing a helmet.

2) Make Training A Priority.

Even if a license is not required, for safety's sake, practice extensively in a variety of road and weather conditions. Both kids and adults need training and experience before attempting to maneuver their scooters out in traffic. With parents giving a little training and taking a little time to train their children, moped scooters may be an object of fun instead of injury.

3) Look For Debris and Be Aware of Dangerous Road Conditions

Stay away from any shiny surface, puddles, loose gravel or leaves on the road which can cause the scooter to slide quickly and unexpectedly. Also, choose the roads you use carefully and avoid heavy, fast-moving traffic.

4) Watch For Vehicles Following You Too Closely.

Because motor scooters stop quickly in comparison with cars, you need to be aware of those drivers following too closely. Typically, mopeds travel slower than cars, tempting the car driver to tailgate you. When you plan to stop or turn, communicate clearly with hand signals or with your electric signal.

5) Be As Visible As Possible

Assume other drivers do not see you. A safe approach for a moped scooter driver is to wear bright colored clothing, always have your lights on, and use your turn signals. The excuse car drivers who have hit a motor scooter rider is that they did not see the person.

6) Be Knowledgeable and Follow Safety Laws of the Road

Being safe includes not making risky or unnecessary maneuvers in traffic and staying alert at all times. Having a defensive riding attitude will prevent many accidents and enhance your motor scooter experience.

7) Avoid Carrying Other Passengers

Passengers change the way you operate your vehicle. If you are inexperienced in transporting a passenger, you may have extra difficulties with balance and control of your vehicle.

Following these safety tips will not only prevent you from serious injuries, but enhance your motor scooter experience. Further your wise investment by enrolling in your local scooter safety course.
